Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering for Digital Transition

Department of Engeneering

In recent years, the increasing digitalization of industrial and production processes has generated and made available a considerable amount of data and information that needs to be stored, shared, processed and interpreted.

Managing and taking full advantage of such a quantity of “raw” data has become one of the main objectives not only at the level of scientific research but also a priority in the company field, which requires increasingly qualified and up-to-date professional profiles with respect to information engineering methodologies and tools. In this context, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity and the Internet of Things (IoT) represent frontier technologies and essential tools in the digitalization and optimization of production processes and thus for economic and cultural growth. The digital transition of companies and public institutions is not just a matter of introducing digital tools and technologies in the execution of traditional processes but involves the redesign of processes, the introduction of automation, and even the development of new products and services enabled by digitalization. There is increasing use of servitization (or Subscription Economy), with subscription-based services. Leading this path must be an experienced figure in the field of Information Technology such as the junior graduate in Computer Engineering for Digital Transition.

The study curriculum is part of the degree class L-8 – Information Engineering. Therefore, the junior graduate in Computer Engineering for Digital Transition knows and can apply the principles of basic sciences and computer engineering sciences. In addition, the training of the Junior Engineer in Computer Engineering for Digital Transition deepens skills for the digitalization of production, logistics and public administration systems.

The employment opportunities for the undergraduates in Computer Engineering for Digital Transition include all those organizations, of any size and type (public or private), characterized by complex processes whose digitalization is to be engineered or managed: manufacturing, service and public administration companies; companies operating in the area of information systems and computer networks; service companies; public administration IT services; management systems and services for large infrastructures.

In addition to the mobility programs for students offered by LUM Giuseppe Degennaro University, specific mobility programs may be planned for students in this degree program. The possible prosecution of the studies may take place in a “Laurea Magistrale” offered by LUM Giuseppe Degennaro University or by other Universities, after checking the minimum access requirements set by each University.

Study Plans

Engineering Management

Only the 1st year of the study plan of the BSc in Engineering Management will start in the academic year 2021/2022

The Bachelor’s Degree Course in Management Engineering aims to train professional profiles that express engineering-management skills related to Digital Management processes in public and private organizational systems, integrating business, economic and legal knowledge and skills with competences in their training path statistical and mathematical, managerial and technological.

Graduates in Management Engineering – Digital Management specialization – will be able to support the management and transformation of business processes in an organizational and inter-organizational key, improving workflows and seizing new opportunities for technological innovation by generating business models innovative. They will be able to follow the evolution of information systems according to the organization’s needs by planning, designing and managing the services provided in relation to Information Technology activities and the people involved in them.

Graduates in Management Engineering – Digital Management specialization – will have the ability

  • to support the management and digital transformation of production, distribution and consumption processes in an organizational and inter-organizational key;
  • to plan the implementation of innovation and digital development paths in private companies and public administrations on the basis of an assessment of organizational needs, planning, designing and managing the services provided in relation to the potential for application of innovative technologies and understanding the centrality of people in the organizational dynamics of value creation;
  • to use strategies for the acquisition, management and analysis of large volumes of data for decision making, extracting information and knowledge to be used in business management, business and production processes, innovation projects and sustainable development of companies;
  • to design the interfaces of a software system, manage the security of information systems, create logical-functional models and use cases for the design of digital technology solutions.

Graduates in Management Engineering – Digital Management specialization – can cover a wide range of organizational roles, with particular attention to the fields of design, production, management and business organization, assistance to technical-commercial structures, risk analysis and quality and safety management. They can work both in the free profession and in manufacturing or service companies and in public administrations. In addition, graduates will develop an entrepreneurial culture and mindset, that can be useful for the creation and development of business initiatives.
