The Center
The University Language Center, established in 2021, aims to
- ensure linguistic training for students from all structures and degree courses, doctoral, and post-graduate specialization courses at LUM;
- promote and organize training and/or refresher courses in French, English, Spanish, and German, also for external users, especially for secondary school students;
- organize foreign language courses for teachers;
- organize conferences and seminars related to language teaching and translation;
- implement projects and agreements with International Certifying Bodies;
- serve as a documentation and material development center for language teaching and learning by publishing open source educational material;
- promote exchanges, meetings, collaborations, contracts, and agreements with institutions, bodies, associations, and schools at regional, national, and international levels;
- organize Italian language courses as a second language for foreign students.
The University Language Center complements institutional teaching support by offering additional language learning activities for students and staff.
The following courses can be activated annually to meet specific needs and objectives:
- Academic English
- Business English
- General English
- Legal English
- Arabic
- Chinese
- French
- German
- Italian for foreigners
- Portuguese
- Spanish.
The courses will only be activated if the minimum number of 12 students is reached, at discounted rates for the LUM community.

English Courses for Certifications
English preparatory courses for Cambridge certification exam
Cambridge exams are structured in a series of tests based on different levels of competence; the outcome of each exam is either “pass” or “fail.” The courses organized by our Center are designed specifically to target the linguistic skills that will be assessed in the exam (Reading, Use of English, Writing, etc.) and are taught by native-speaking teachers with specific experience in preparing for Cambridge tests. The courses include various test simulations to familiarize students with the test questions and to help them effectively manage their time.
• Number of hours: 60 hours
• Frequency: 2 sessions per week, each lasting 90 minutes
• Levels: A2, B1, B2, C1, C2
• Cost: €690 (external users), €575 (LUM users)
Legal English preparation for TOLES exam
TOLES (Test of Legal English Skills) is an internationally recognized certification exam in Legal English by major companies, organizations, and law firms. It consists of three levels (Foundation, Higher, and Advanced). The preparation will focus on fundamental aspects of law and legal English and will specifically target the TOLES exam at the “Foundation” level.
• Number of hours: 40 hours
• Frequency: 2 sessions per week, each lasting 90 minutes
• Level: B2
• Cost: €780 (external users), €650 (LUM users)
Business English preparation for Cambridge exam (BEC)
BEC (Business English Certification) is a certification exam in Business English that consists of three levels (Preliminary, Vantage, and Higher). The preparation will focus on essential aspects of English for business and will target the BEC exam at the “Vantage” level (B2).
• Number of hours: 40 hours
• Frequency: 2 sessions per week, each lasting 90 minutes
• Level: B2
• Cost: €780 (external users), €650 (LUM users)
Vocabulary (B2)
This course aims to significantly expand vocabulary and develop strategies for memorizing new words. Various topics will be covered with a focus on exploring vocabulary using various educational materials and/or internet research. The lessons are independent and can be attended without the continuity required by a structured course.
• Number of hours: 20 hours
• Frequency: 2 sessions per week, each lasting 45 minutes
• Levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2
• Cost: €300 (external users), €250 (LUM users)
English for Academic Purposes (for teachers)
English for Academic Purposes – EAP courses aim to develop written and oral communication skills in an academic context, drawing on authentic situations and texts from various disciplines and specialist sectors. A final course assessment is required for the issuance of a certificate of attendance and achievement.

• Frequency: 1 session per week, lasting 90 minutes
• Levels: B2, C1, C2
• Cost: €420 (external users), €350 (LUM users)
English for Medicine
The English for Medicine course is designed for doctors, medical students, and other professionals in the medical and healthcare field who wish to enhance their English communication skills for professional and academic purposes.
The course aims to improve linguistic skills through guided exercises focusing on grammatical and lexical aspects relevant to these disciplines.
